Water Damaged Plasterboard Repairs across Sydney
Water-damaged plasterboard is one of the most common jobs we get called to in Sydney — and one of the most often patched badly. The stain on the surface is the easy part to see; the real damage is behind it, in plasterboard that's lost its strength, insulation that's still wet, and sometimes mould growing in the cavity. Painting over the stain just hides the problem until the wall fails.
We've been repairing water-damaged plasterboard across Sydney for 25+ years, including a lot of insurance work after major storm events and apartment burst-pipe jobs. The right sequence is non-negotiable: stop the source, dry the cavity, cut out the damaged board, replace and re-set — then texture-match so the repair disappears.

Our process

On-site check of the cavity. If still wet, we agree a dry-out plan first — we never sheet over moisture.
Damaged plasterboard removed, insulation checked, new board installed and three-coat set with drying time between.
Smooth set, stipple or texture matched to the surrounding finish. Insurance photos provided if needed.

FAQs
Light surface staining can sometimes be sealed and re-finished. Once the plasterboard is soft, swollen or sagging, it has to be cut out and replaced — sheeting over wet board guarantees the repair fails.
Look for brown or yellow staining, soft spots when pressed, bubbling paint, a musty smell, or visible sagging. If any of these are present, text us a photo and we'll inspect the same week.
If the cavity stayed wet for more than a few days, mould is likely. We don't sheet over mould — the area is cleaned and confirmed dry before new plasterboard goes in. For larger mould issues we recommend a remediation specialist first.
A small wet section is $400–$800. Larger sections or full walls $1,200–$2,500. Insurance-claim jobs are quoted to insurer specification. All fixed-price after inspection.
Sudden water damage (burst pipes, storms) is usually covered. Slow leaks are sometimes excluded. We provide itemised quotes and reports formatted for NSW insurance claims.
